Ceramic pigments: effects of process and appearance factors

Due to the particularity of ceramic pigment, it must be coated and baked to make the final product, so as to obtain its color in glaze or blank. Therefore, in addition to drawing lessons from previous work experience and the three primary color theorem, when mixing the color of ceramic pigments, the finished products must also be baked and fired through experiments. It should be noted that the final color development effect of the colorant is not necessarily its appearance color. The following phenomena are often found in practical work:

1. The appearance color of the same sample a is darker than B, but the final color of sintered plate a is brighter than B.

2. Sample a has been adjusted to the appearance color of sample B before combustion, but the final color is still different.

3. After mixing sample a and sample B, the result is not necessarily the middle color.

This indicates that the appearance of the color of the ceramic pigment color is not necessarily related to the final color of the color. Similarly, the three primary color theorem does not apply to all types of colorants. The appearance color of ceramic pigment is not necessarily its final color. For example, aquamarine blue and sapphire blue (also cobalt based blue) have a purple appearance. All these show that when mixing pigments, panel technicians must have a certain color theory and a full understanding of the performance of ceramic pigments.

Processing of ceramic pigments: various ceramic pigments and pigments have different firing ranges. Too high or too low temperature will adversely affect the color. Some pigments have a wide roasting range, such as chrome tin red and sea blue. It can be used for high-temperature underglaze firing and low-temperature underglaze firing, with good color effect. However, some colorants have a fixed color range, so there are many taboos when using them. For example, lead antimonate pigments can only be used for decorative glazing and low-temperature color glaze products. If the temperature exceeds the temperature, the color will be lost. In addition to the firing temperature, many ceramic pigments are very sensitive to the flame atmosphere of the kiln during the firing process. For example, the copper oxide pigment displays green when oxidizing the flame and red when reducing the flame. great changes have taken place.
